Catatan Akhir Tahun

Turned out this kind of time of the year is always emotional. After reading last year's Catatan Akhir Tahun, it became emotional again. I guess it's the reason why it's called Catatan Akhir Tahun. I had three major phases this 2018. Here we go!

JANUARY 2018
Running a gym was a huge thing. Literally a huge thing. I got to spend less time with my husband, as well as him with our daughter. But somehow we believe it was for a greater good. His uncle helped out so much with the opening and we were grateful people are very supportive. I had a Singapore trip with Skylar while I was only 4 months pregnant. It was very challenging yet fun. Sky was very kind and cheerful, it was really a baby moon worth remembered!

FEBRUARY 2018
Pregnancy is getting funnier and funner. I'm helping Nash with building Luxuvere team and interviewed some interesting people. Campus was also fun as I got to teach one last time before I had my maternity leave. Guess what? I had International Relations major as my Communication Persuasion subject. Whew.. they were unbelievable!

MARCH 2018
Luxuvere was getting closer to having the dream team. It's fun to help a friend working with cool project. I also enjoyed working as an advisor for my students thesis, sstt.... I had amazing students as my advisees, they were all smart and very clever in building their thesis.

APRIL 2018
Midterm at LSPR means crazy time for me. as I was also teaching Indonesian State Philosophy for international class, it's a double thing when it came to marking their papers. I cannot be more excited about having another baby on the way. I'm just amazed that my baby was so cooperative, warm and calming.

MAY 2018
It's Skylar's 2nd birthday!! We only celebrated at home and bought cake with candles to mark her new age. Glad we could spend time as a family more knowing that a new addition is about to come!

JUNE 2018
Welcome to the world, Rivero Karim Alhakim. It's a blessing to have a baby boy on Ramadhan month, then we moved forward to having our first Eid as a family of four. Truly a blessing. I think it was the moment of my life where everything seemed so beautiful. My first advisees went through their thesis defense very well and I was very proud although I couldn't be there with them! But I always knew they could do it!

JULY 2018
Yay I'm back to working again although it's only been a month since my leave. Well what can I say, some jobs cannot be done without me. But I really enjoyed having a supportive family and amazing kids. I had my baby blues but not as much as when I had Sky. I think it was pretty much because of how much Eqi has grown and protected his family wiser. Many more students were having their defense and I was so thrilled to see more people graduating!

AUGUST 2018
Really, working in many jobs in part time base was not easy at all. I thought it would give me more flexibility, and yes. But then I had to juggle with my own pace and responsibility. August was the moment where I got many job offers and projects that got me confused and happy at the same time. Almost a month teaching English matriculation at IPMI was fantastic. I got to see many new faces and different characteristics of Business students.

SEPTEMBER 2018
I accepted the offer of teaching Business Communication at IPMI, starting September to January 2019. I think it was quite an interesting offer as I got to be able to commit 2 days a week for 2 campus, plus in and out at Luxuvere office. I got it fine. I turned 30 and I felt loved by my main lovers.

I went to Kampung on first week of September, carrying Karim and taking a maid with her daughter to fly with us. Twas a fun trip, tiring but fun.

OCTOBER 2018
2 challenging weeks in East Java; I became a trainer for a management training programme. I swear it was the hardest and the most tiring 2 weeks of all this year! But it's all worth it! The first week I was with Eqi and Karim (he breastfed exclusively) and the second week I was with my mum, Sky, maid and Karim. YES TWO ROOMS! Truly a priceless experience and I cannot wait to have this kind of job again! LOL.

NOVEMBER 2018
YES prayer was answered! I got another training job! One day but totally worth it!

So I had this drama with my former helper at home. Horrible one; she was caught lying repetitiously after this new maid came to our family. Basically she was just jealous with the new maid, and she started so many dramas. I just ignored her now, she's completely ridiculous. November was also blissful, I got to work in a project with BSSN. As a researcher, but quite cool thing to work at.

DECEMBER 2018
Went to Malang by train with the whole family for a family event.. It was a horrible trip by train but amazing stay during in Malang. We got to spend quality time and Sky was so content with the bonding time with her Dad. As usual, year-end means poverty to me lol, but I don't worry much, this too shall pass.

I AM SO CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT 2019 HAS FOR ME.
HERE WE GO!

So You Think You Can Write?

Mirip sama acara TV ya judul post ini? Sengaja, biar catchphrase aja sama kontennya.

Tapi ya blog blog gue, ya suka suka gue!

Anyway, a couple of years back, I have been involved with this digital/online magazine called Eat Vacation and Luxuvere. Basically, these 2 are in the same group, Luxuvere, but containing different types of contents. I used to be the Editor/Writer back then at Eat Vacation, and now moving (up?) to the HR for both brands. It's quite interesting because although I am only a part time here and there, I feel like I'm so attached with the whole company. Not only I know the owner, but actually the industry is quite interesting; it's media 4.0.

A digital media platform that has SO MANY CHALLENGES, yet at the same time, so many opportunities. Let alone the time-based and reader-based content, I think the topics covered are very niche and great to study about. I personally think I'd fit the Managing Editor position if only I could leave my whole family life. Not because I am so good at it, but I think it's something worth exploring. However, despite the indefinite shape it can be formed within these past 2 years, I absolutely believe that a media background would be the most required qualification for anyone sitting in this position. Firstly because the editorial direction is still an infant, it needs serious and intensive care from someone whose experience has covered media and digital world. Yeah digital I mean hardworking, timeless and workaholic individuals can fit in. It's not that people without this background cannot work, no, totally not. English is also the main requirement, because the media aim for expat and native readers. Secondly, I really think there are a lot more potentials that haven't been reached, both by the owner, and the team member. Simply not because they are not capable, nor not passionate in growing the company, but more because of the undefined workload and team-pace yet.

YA MEMANG ITU KAN ALASAN KENAPA MEREKA UNGGUL dibanding blog.

ide nulis juga sering muncul just from my incidental click at old pictures

SUDAH SUDAH BALIK LAGI PADA TOPIK:
People really need to adjust when it comes to a new workplace, even though when they think they belong to that new place they are into. Because different company means different culture, and different people bring different value. Hence, different value implies on different working-style. Not that anyone or anything is better than anything else, but merely because adaptation and adjustment may need some time. This 'time' is what some people spare or have too much, especially when it comes to business.

Well as in for myself in the company... I'll do what I can do best; juggling with many works from many places. God forbid anything happen to my health, lol.

Esquire VS DA MAN

Barusan habis riset via chat WA sama beberapa temen cowok (dan cewek) tentang

"if I ask you "majalah cowok" what crosses your mind?"

You know what majority answer is?
PLAYBOY. That's number one most answers. Nggak kaget, sama sekali nggak kaget.

But seriously, many answers came back and they are all quite reasonable and interesting.. like this one:

ANYWAY
It's safe to say that men have literature to read too, lol, nope joking. I mean, men have things to read too, even I think more categories compared to ladies': 1. Fashion, 2. Horoscope, 3. Lifestyle, 4. Beauty. CUMA EMPAT LHO MOSTLY CEWEK TUH BACAANNYA. Selebihnya ya cowok itu punya kategori lain: kesehatan, otomotif, teknologi, politik, fashion, musik, olahraga, game, dan tentunya CEWEK.

Not that I mean which one is more intelligent than which one ya (of course women are smarter lol) but then what I want to focus on is: how much men and masculinity have changed these days. It shocks me enough that some male magazines change the presence of female as their content from the sexy naughty consumable ones into a smart and loving page like this:

LOL look at the magazine name: GANLOB?! hahahaha, sorry, it's just me I guess. But anyway, ternyata bisa kan mengubah fitur 'cewek' dari yang half naked and appealing like the smart Chantal or Olivia Munn into a ..... ya smart looking like the celebs Syahrini dipakein blazer atau (almh) Julia Perez dengan business attirenya. No offense, it's just unique and interesting to me how men's magazines place women's figure as their content. Not to mention that, it all goes back to perspective and value.

Chantal for FHM

Chantal for Metro TV
Jupe for Sidang Skripsi

Other thing that shocks me is DAMAN. The fancy DestinAsian for MAN was just launched this year and bringing cool and spectacular event to celebrate their birth.

TUHKAN? You get my point?
They are changin manhood and masculinity with different perspective.
NO NOTHING WRONG AT ALL. Personally I think it's a perspective worth looking at.

Again, I am not saying it's wrong, I'm saying it's unique and it really defines its readership.

BUT THEN ANOTHER UNIQUE THING HAPPENED. I think it's only because the magazine is new, but I'm not sure. My gay friends answered my question with the same answers as the straight ones; Playboy, FHM, Esquire and Fitness for Man.

I was like:

UPDATING MYSELF

So hi!
Perhaps you arrived at this page because you clicked my bio on Instagram, that's okay!
I have just a few updates of what I am and I do and I have now.

Rivero Karim Alhakim was born on June 5th 2018. He was almost 3.9kg and it was an incredible experience for me giving birth to a baby boy. He has been very cooperative throughout the trimesters I had since 2017 and the timing he picked was fantastic, 12:50 AM (I think). I breastfeed him just okay although he's a bit demanding. He grows UP SO FAST I can feel him getting heavier each day minute. My husband was so amazing and very supportive, I don't know how he turned into a wise gentleman in only 2 years after Sky's birth. Totally worth the wait!

Skylar Erka Putri (or I'd rather call her Skylar Shabrina Kurniawan), well she is 2 and a half just 4 days ago, and she has been a cool and fun sister to hang out with. I can tell she had some phases and tantrum during her siblinghood since the arrival of her little brother, but she handles it very well. I am proud! Thinking to (and saving for) send her to a school next year. Let's see what I can do and what she'd progress by then. Btw, she has stopped wearing diapers on 2.3 months, VERY PROUD!!

JOB
Aw man! I am living a quadruple job life now. Believe me I thought it was easier to part time here and there with more flexible working hours, but NO! I AM COMPLETELY WRONG! Things are harder because, despite the flexible working hours, you have to be aware of your own workload and responsibility. As a lecturer in 2 campuses, and a part time HR, and a project-based trainer, man... it is so hard and exhausting. BUT! But what fun is: I get very very wide exposure of working experience and yes, I CANNOT COMPLAIN how incredible is managing my own time and making sure my kids are nurtured most of the times by my hands and attention. It's great to juggle here and there while I am always catching up with my own pace, target and sleeping duration (believe me, grad student life was so much easier). Plus, the training and research projects are so fun (and FUND) to do!

Published Works
As much as I want to underestimate myself and tend to always be unproductive, I managed to get myself published in ULTIMACOMM and long time ago -but still proud of- article in EATVACATION hahaha.

Alright, I'll update again next month (hopefully)

Re:Celebrating Women. #IWD2018

WATCH THIS!!!

I am still not sure if 'women' have to be celebrated. I don't know if I am a feminist, or a non-feminist, or a neutral one if there's such thing.

I used to agree to equality and respect for male and female because humans are not to be divided by their sex, biological differences, and gender. I think what makes a human human is how much they mean to themselves, their society, their future. As simple as that. But that simple thing gets more complicated when I break down the phrase 'how much they mean'. What does that even mean?

Let's discuss the popular one, #metoo and #timesUp issues, which are honestly a tip of the iceberg of women's problem. Only because the 'victims' are within Hollywood parameter, they become an explosion in the world. In the past, I have read and heard so much worse problems women had to face; discrimination, pressure, harassment, human-rights violation, planned marriage, political marriage, affairs, abortion, sexual exploitation, and other horrible things women had to deal with in the past. I mean until today.

I also want to point out the excessed heroic-stating of Kartini in Indonesia. She was an icon, or said to be so. While in fact, there are other figures, female figures who previously far before her, play even bigger and more important role than her. Not only about equality of the genital status quo, but actually about a nation, a tribe they belong in, a belief they held, and other human rights which were so much harder than not being let to receive education in free nature. Try Googling Ruhana Kudus, try Googling Cut Nyak Dien, or Christina Marta Tihahu. People these days often forgot these names because the name Kartini has been over-exposed for the past decades. Again, I believe it was Dutch conspiracy and doctrine. The Europeans are good in this. But anyway, go back to women, yes, not only education, women had many other problems in the past, which I believe until today they still exist.

Female-only section in public transport. How about this one?
I honestly take advantage of its presence. Not being naive of course, I want a more convenient space. But they bigger question is, with this kind of seclusion, are women being protected or being exposed of their weakness and vulnerability?

The term PELAKOR or the woman who steals someone's man. Is this merely for women who have bad attitude and intention? Or they forgot (and forging) the fact than men also play their role in a thing called affair and cheating on relationship? Why is female becoming the bad one in any affairs attacking any couples? Why isn't there another evaluation of men's tendency to be greedy and so playful they can play on the weak women?

International Women's Day. This year was quite okay for me as generally the world seeks justice for women in workplace and other stuff. In my country, we are still busy defining what feminism is and we are still busy if LGBT is a disease. Shame. There are so much more important things worth discussing girls.

I think we should begin with ourselves. Women everywhere are screaming their rights wearing bikinis but don't want to be called slut. They ask for justice while all they do is demand everything to be easier for them. Women themselves are so contradictive, like they actually don't know (yet) what they want. I started to look at myself and see what I can fix from within before screaming my right (that's being violated) outside. I think all women should do the same: look within you, what you did, what you will do, and how would you be responsible of your choice. You cannot always hide behind 'my clothes doesn't define what I am' or such thing that sounds like you can do anything you want with your body and men cannot do anything about it. NO. PLEASE STOP. Please be responsible. Please be consistent between what you believe, what you say and what you do.

I always believe (and proven) that humans are the result of what they have done. There is always consequences for every action you take. Even for the risk you may face when you choose not to do something. It all goes back to you, and we all always have choices.

Lastly, I would like to thank government & corporates that provide sufficient maternity leave, room for breastmilk pumping for mothers, and of course allowance for employees who have more than just one role in their life; an employee and a mother.

I hope women get better in many ways, in many places if not all.

The social (and) media shift

Jarang-jarang nih gue posting soal hal yang agak bener, padahal isinya juga tetep sampahan, tapi kayaknya this one has to be documented at some point other than my Twitter dashing.

So these days I've been slightly tuning into the telly again just because my dad loves telly so much that each time we hang out in the dining room or anywhere, he always turns the telly on. From what I slightly saw, of course other than the rubbish sinetron and other contents, I realised the raised of Youtube and Twitter and other social media contents from citizens becoming the contents of the telly.

For instance, news programme who displays 'people's opinion' by showing their tweets (whether they mention the telly account or not).

On one hand, I think it's a smart move, cheap and smart. You only need to set the idea, you've got the coverage already and taa daa, you have the free content from people to people (oh so democracy). You even look very neutral and aspiring the people. You contain people's thought and you grab opinions efficiently. Editorial-perspective, well, less and more work at the same time when it comes to sharing rakyat jelata's thoughts on social media, and moving them to a broadcasted platform OOUCH....

On the other hand, this is feeding people reluctant and provoking news, I think. I might be wrong in this, but making stupid people famous is so not wise for mainstream media like telly. Indonesians have reached the moment where what your friends (and fave people) are saying is truer and more agreeable than what strangers (even experts) are saying. REGARDING MOSTLY EVERY ISSUE. Name it: politic, culture, new songs, films, cosmetics, food, hang out place, brands, street report! Therefore what so called HOAX is now harder to identify and to avoid. It takes beyond media literacy when it comes to seeing and believing what you see in (social) media.

As in education point of view, this is sickening to me. It's not that we are dumb and must say no to technology advancement (doh we're not all suku baduy) but the fact that our people are mostly still lack of critical thinking and open-mindedness, social media only triggers wider and wider separation between individuals. Hence in the multicultural and plural country like Indonesia, provocation is like a commodity now; the powerful takes control of what to spread amongst the public sphere, AND PEOPLE BUY IT.

All in all, I personally think telly (and other conventional media) have to re-think again and work harder (like very hard man, you see how printed media are dying every day) to put contents and to feed humans out there. It's 15:1 between telly and the independent organisations who watch over media movements. So yes, it's a hardwork for every party; the media, the people and the government. For the people, their nature is to blame, so media and government.... take a deep breath, conduct a really thorough research to understand the layers, the trend, the tendency, the speculations and the projections of the society in.... EVERY WHERE; urban, rural, suburban, even overseas!
